TOO MANY LAWYERS?

At the annual Incubator Consortium conference at Texas A&M Law School in Fort Worth, Meredith participated in a panel discussion about the accuracy of the current conventional wisdom that “there are too many lawyers.” The panelists generally agreed that, despite Bureau of Labor Statistics and despite technological advances, too many people still do not have access to legal services. So the question was reframed from supply (“are there too many lawyers?”) to demand (“how does our society and legal system better meet the unmet demand for legal services?”) Leveraging technology is a big piece of the puzzle, as well as law school reform and strategic design of the laws themselves.
